San Juan Islands day by day

San Juan Kayak will tailor an itinerary to your group.  This route worked for the time of year that we went (First week of September) and was based on tides and our ability.  We also specifically asked to go to Stuart Island - they don't typically send groups here because it's a long open-water crossing and it's risky in a kayak.  Please allow the experts to guide you.

We launch out of Jackson Beach.

Estimated map of the whole trip.

Day 1: Jackson Beach to Jones Island

There's a hike on yellow Island and water available at the campsite.  Hang your food since there are raccoons on the island and they will steal your food.

Day 2: Jones Island to Stuart Island

There is water and raccoons again at the campsite.

Day 3: Stuart Island to Point Doughty

Point Doughty feels like the edge of the world.  You can see light on the horizon coming from Canada at night.  I think we collected fire wood and had lunch on Waldron island. The campsite is up a steep stairway so you'll have to carry your water, gear and wood up.  There are raccoons but no water this time.  There is a pit toilet.

Day 4: Point Doughty to Shaw Island

Shaw Island has Shaw County store so you can grab some items there at the end of the day.  We grabbed some ice cream and beer and celebrated our last night.
